Welcome to Burwash: Save Our Fields

Our members are mostly residents in and around Burwash in East Sussex. The group seeks to protect the beauty and character of our village, its countryside, its hamlets and the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB)
The group wants the right houses in the right place.

"And that will be England gone, The shadows, the meadows the lanes, The guildhalls, the carved choirs.

There'll be books; it will linger on in galleries; but all that remains, for us will be concrete and tyres."

From "Going, Going" by Philip Larkin.

Park Lane (South-East) applies to Rother District Council for the affordable homes condition on the development to be removed.

It is anticipated that this will be dealt with by the planning committee and not by officer.

Oakleys Garage Re-development

The group is sorry to hear that the development is under threat because the two experts (one for the developer and one for Rother District Council) do not agree on the cost of removing the contaminated material on the site and therefore whether there should be an affordable element to the scheme.

The group believes:

  • the site is heavily contaminated,

  • that much of the contamination is buried and

  • it is essential for the work to proceed before the project becomes unviable.’
